Roger and PH are returning to the Midwest!
Milwaukee, Chicago and St. Paul will be treated to a rare mini-tour of RC/PH in March. These acclaimed shows will be the only appearances by Roger in the Midwest before Circus Mexicus.
RC/PH will be at Shank Hall in Milkwaukee on March 8. The next night, they'll be performing before a sold out crowd in Chicago at Schubas. And then wrap up the tour on March 10 in St. Paul at O'Gara's Bar and Grill. This show is also a fundraising event for cystic fibrosis.
Don't miss the chance to sing along to all the RCPM and Refreshments' classics in these rare performances that are unplugged, but definitely not short on energy!

Circus Mexicus XXI

¡Christmas-Más!
I am Captain Suburbia. I live in an 60-year-old suburban neighborhood. We have sidewalks on each sideof old, wide streets, big trees, lots of kids of all-ages on the block, and cool adult neighbors who spend lots of time chatting in our front yards and are always free to borrow butter, the toilet snake, or bum a bottle of wine.
We also have one hermit-of-a-man who, around the same time every weekday, apparently after work, drives slowly down our street and never looks sideways. His door is shut on Halloween, we don’t see him at parties, he hangs no lights during the Holy days, and he never waves back.
One of my young sons waves at him every day. He has for years.
I’ve seen it hundreds of times; we hear the distant rumble of the diesel truck, it looms into view, I watch my son stand and wave, the man’s gaze fixed-forward, no wave back, the truck turns the corner. The rest of us, kids and adults alike, don’t wave anymore.
I stopped because I didn’t want to appear confrontational and I didn’t want to feel foolish or slighted anymore.
I’ve thought to ask why my son continues to wave, but know his reasons are clearer in his heart than could be articulated to me. I don’t ask because to him, it’s just what you do; no need for second thoughts or rational justification to you, Dad.
As a protective parent, I don’t want his heart broken or his spirit worn. Not in front of me, not this young, not in my front yard. Still, I don’t ask why he waves.
So again, yesterday as we hear the rumble of the truck, my son hurries down from the tree in the front yard, stands in plain view in the middle of the lawn, we see the truck, my son waves…
At the last moment, just before the truck passes, the man turns his head, and wearing the faintest ghost of a grin, he and waves back.
My son looked back at me, shrugged his shoulders a little, and smiled. Not a big, toothy, triumphant victory smile, but a small, simple smile; the kind you see when people are happy. This I saw through misty eyes.
I don’t know if that man has anyone to go home to, to call him, to celebrate with, with whom to spend his precious time. But I do know that he knows he’ll always have someone who will wave to him.
I am lucky enough to declare that each Yuletide season has been better than the last, but everyone I know and everybody knows that the Holidays came and went too fast,….again. I’m not ready for it to be over. I don’t want to take the lights down, turn off the holiday music, remove the tree, get out my pajamas, blow out the candles, shave…and I should wave more, again.
It is through the desire to continue to live in the Spirit of the Season, that we in my neighborhood have declared the post-season “¡Christmas-Más!” And so we invite you to give the best of yourself, spend a little more time in your PJs, and enjoy celebration without obligation to give material things. We invite you to carry on in the Spirit of the Season and continue to wave to everyone, regardless of what they have or don’t have to return.

Peacemakers,
It's been an exciting and almost surreal year for RCPM, and we still have three more incredible shows to go in 2011!
It's been a year filled with the release of a new studio album, setting a new world record for sombrero wearing, one of the longest Circus Mexicus concerts ever, broken down buses, cramped RV rides, long hot days in Texas, Diamondback baseball fever, and Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big and Buzzy played from start to finish for the first time ever.
And the year isn't over yet!
Coming up Dec. 23, start your Christmas weekend with the biggest holiday party in Denver. It's Tinsel and Tequila with Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers and The Railbenders at The Ogden Theatre. When these two bands get together, you never know what songs will be played. Grab a glass of Egg Nog, or Mexican Moonshine, and join us in spreading holiday cheer.
Then it's a return trip to Flagstaff and The Orpheum for RCPM, with a special appearance by The Jons.
The next night, ring in the New Year at Scottsdale's Ultimate Block Party with RCPM.
You, the fans, have stuck with RCPM through the highs and lows of 2011. Let's end the year with high vibrations, good spirits and a little Mexican Moonshine at the final three RCPM shows of the year!

Talking Turkey, Nov. 23
It's that time of year again when we get to talk some turkey with Roger and PH!
On Wednesday, Nov. 23, Roger and PH will be at the St. Mary's Food Bank to help collect turkeys, canned food and other non-perishable items to be handed out to those who are down on their luck in this season of giving thanks.
Help make it a happy Thanksgiving for those families struggling to put food on the table and bring at least $10 worth of food to the Food Bank, 2831 N. 31st Avenue, Phoenix.
To show their appreciation for your donation, Roger and PH will have their guitar and drums with them and play a few tunes for food donors starting about noon.
If you donate at least $10 worth of food, your name will be put into a sombrero. At 2 p.m. one name will be drawn out of the sombrero to receive two tickets to RCPM's show at the Rialto Theatre on Nov. 26 in Tucson. You do not need to be present during the drawing to win tickets. We'll post the name on Twitter and Facebook later. But please only submit your name if you know you can attend the show.
But Roger won't be done talking turkey then. He'll be at Tops Liquors, 403 W. University Drive, form 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to sign bottles of Mexican Moonshine purchased at Tops to those who make canned food, turkey or cash donations. Tops was the first store in the United States to sell Mexican Moonshine. Muchas Gracias!
Talk turkey with Roger and PH this Thanksgiving season, and help those in need.

Safe Harbor - To The Sunny Side of the Storm
Hóla Peacemakers,
Though it’s always an exercise in compassion and in community, it’s with far too great a frequency that we all come together to help those in our fold who are in need. For whatever reason, whether we’re in search of prevention and cure for a disease, aiding an orphanage in covering basic expenses, coming to the rescue of abused or neglected animals, or simply helping someone we know with the pressing financial burdens associated with treatment, the Peacemakers’ community has always proved united and generous in supporting others during times of trouble and need.
It is this spirit of fellowship and charity I hope to call upon to help a dear friend of mine and of everyone in RCPM. He’s a sailor (a Captain, in fact), my senior in years, has been an RCPM/Refreshments fan and advocate since before I knew him, is a tireless benefactor and organizer for charity in Rocky Point, Mexico, and is, quite possibly, the most positive human being I know. He’d make me walk the plank if I mentioned his name or if he knew of my designs to help throw him a life-line in these high seas.
Here’s the short of it: he’s got cancer and will be having an operation(s) to treat it very soon. His wife will be by his side throughout the 2 months of treatment and recovery. The good news: he’s a veteran and his treatment will be mostly covered by the VA. The not so good news: their travel, lodging and basic living needs (outside the hospital) during his treatment will not be covered. There’s a secret little fundraising party going on at JJ’s Cantina this Saturday (10/22) at which many of his close friends will be passing the sombrero. Here’s a cyber-link to that sombrero.
I’m going to try to add some attention and hopefully a few more pesos to the good Captain’s sombrero by hosting a few fundraising auctions on e-Bay. I’m parting with some nostalgic little treasures that I have been keeping around; the boots that I wore on the Honky Tonk Union cover, a black leather jacket I sported at our first photo shoot with Jim Dalton, my “World Record Sombrero,” the pancho I wore in an Arizona Highways article/photo, and a few of my silver rings (most of which I bought in Mexico, usually on a pretty good buzz!).

Many years ago, the Captain accompanied me on my first crossing of the Sea of Cortez that I made in my own little sailboat. On our return trip, we were overtaken by and enveloped in a freak storm with winds that gusted to over 40 knots. We got into what’s known out there as “the Shit.” The whole rig was groaning and creaking and making noises that seemed a promise to fall apart. At some point, in the washing-machine seas of 12 foot waves and troughs, with our jib down, our main triple-reefed, and (I KID YOU NOT, I HAVE WITNESSES) with a contingent of a dozen Pacific Hammerhead Sharks as our escort, the Captain read panic in my eyes and calmly said, “Just take it wave by wave, matey. There’s sunshine waiting on the other side.” He was right. And I hope we may, in some small way, be able to lend a hand in getting him through to the sunny side of his storm.
