The Road to Circus Mexicus 2012!
Hola Peacemakers!
Grab your sombreros and get ready to fiesta with Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers on The Road to Circus Mexicus Tour!
If you're like us, you're already daydreaming about Cholla Bay, Mexican Moonshine, fish tacos, beach soccer, cantinas and cold cervezas in Rocky Point, June 8-10. So why wait? RCPM wants to get you in the spirit of Mexico now!!
On their current tour leading up to CMXXI, RCPM wants to turn each venue into a Mexican fiesta to give fans a small taste of what they can expect in June. If you've been to Circus Mexicus - RCPM, you know what it's all about. If you haven't joined us yet for RCPM's biggest rock-n-roll show of the year, consider this tour a small preview.
We want everyone who comes to one of RCPM' s shows through June 3 to wear a sombrero. And if you're a Circus Mexicus veteran, wear one of your old Circus Mexicus shirts. All fans who wear a sombrero to the show will receive $3 off at the merch booth.
We will also be handing out a prize for the best decorated sombrero in each city (details coming soon!)
And each night, a picture will be taken from the stage looking out into the audience to show everyone and their sombreros. So you don't be "that one city" that doesn't participate! Encourage all of your friends, foes, family members and co-workers to get themselves a sombrero and see Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers in April, May and June.
All roads lead back to Tucson on April 27. And the Road to Circus Mexicus Tour starts at the Rialto Theatre.
Gracias, Peacemakers!

Rock and Soccer 2012
Beach Soccer Tournament
Circus Mexicus Beach Soccer @ Wrecked at the Reef Saturday June 9th, 2012 beginning at 8am!
Registration will begin MONDAY MARCH 26 at www.peacetimegoods.com . The tournament is sure to sell out again, so get your team organized and committed NOW to join us for another great day on the beach playing the Beautiful Game! Don’t have a team but want to play? Find teams who need players and players who need teams at http://www.facebook.com/circusmexicus .
Games will continue to be played Co-ed with 5 players per side including goal keepers with unlimited substitutions. Each side will field a 60/40 mix of genders at all times during play. (That is, at least 2 gals must be on the pitch during game play.) Cost is $25 per player and includes an Adidas team jersey and donation to the Larry D Large Foundation benefitting children in Puerto Penasco. www.larrydlargefoundation.org
As we did last year, ALL players and fans are encouraged to bring any equipment (balls, soccer shoes, guards, jerseys, nets, etc) to benefit the Youth Sports Foundation of Puerto Penasco. Last year, your donations helped send 4 Penasco teens from Rocky Point to a soccer camp in Guadalajara hosted by college coaches inside Estadio Omnilife, home to world famous Chivas de Guadalajara. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Youth-Sports-Foundation-of-Puerto-Penasco/112430188845882
We’d like to thank this year’s sponsor,
Young Builders Roofing, www.YoungBuilders.com
for their support of this year’s tournament!
We’ve made a couple of changes to Rock and Soccer:
We’ve made team size-limits much larger this year. So if you’d like to play, but can’t stay all day (or plan on having some cervezas and a siesta sometime during the tourney), or maybe you just dig the jerseys, sign up and stay to play just as long as you like.
This year, to ensure fun and safety for all players, we have included the following divisions, each offering awards to finalists.
¡División Golazo! – For those who play soccer, who have some years experience in the game, or who actively maintain an athletic lifestyle, we recommend this division. Each team may register up to 12 players, minimum 8. There will be 4 teams in ¡Div. Golazo!
¡División Divertida! -For those who haven’t played in awhile and just want step on the beach and get some kicks in, we recommend this division. Each Team may register as many players as they wish, minimum 8. There will be 8 teams in ¡Div. Divertida!
¡División Jovenes!– Just before the Championship games in front of a big crowd and live rock n roll by La Merca, we’ll have 3 youth games open to all kids who want to play. There is no charge. Make sure they have socks, the sand will be warm by then.
If there are enough registrants, young enthusiasts will play in the following flights:
• U10 (8 to 10 years of age)
• U13 (11 to 13 years of age)
• U15 (14 and 15 years of age)
All youth players must be registered by (on-site, 6/9) and accompanied by a parent or guardian. There will be no uniforms in ¡Div. Jovenes!; teams will be issued scrimmage vests (pinnies).
Teams may register at www.peacetimegoods.com beginning March 26 as a complete team (min. 8 players) with total team payment, roster names, team name and jersey sizes. Teams may add players to the roster for $25 each (up to 12 in Div. Golazo; unlimited # in Div. Divertida) after the team has registered and paid for 8 players.
Deadline for complete rosters and payment is Friday, April 27th or when the tournament sells out (whichever comes first). The tournament is limited to a total of 12 Adult teams. Make sure you sign up as soon as possible; registration begins Monday, MARCH 26TH!
All registrations are final because jerseys must be ordered and printed.
We 'd like to extend a huge "Gracias" to Adidas for their support again this year. All the squads will look great playing the Beautiful Game.
Each team assumes the responsibility for maintaining a full roster.
All players especially those looking to hook up with a team are encouraged to join the Circus Mexicus Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/#!/circusmexicus as soon as possible.
¡Viva Fútbol! ¡Viva Rock! ¡Viva Circus Mexicus!
Here are some answers to some questions you may have:
Q: If I pay for a team now, am I able to add players and jerseys until April 24th?
A: Yes! Register and pay for a full team now (a team is a minimum of 8 players), and make sure submit a full, final roster and all jersey sizes by Friday,April 27th.
Q: May I wear shoes?
A: You may wear any “soft” protection. No hard soles, lugs, buckles, etc. 5 Finger-type footwear is permitted, so long as there are no hard surfaces or attachments. There are a number of sand soccer socks on the market. Lots of players just bring tube socks. Check out www.soccerinthesand.com
Q: How old do I have to be to play on an adult team?
A: 16 with parent’s consent. 18+ may register as an adult.
Q: How do I register my kid for the Div. Jovenes game?
A: Just show up, sign him/her in for the match (on site), and stay to cheer your player on!

Roger reflects on Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big & Buzzy
Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big and Buzzy turns sweet 16:
Stumbling 33 steps down memory lane
It’s the 16th anniversary of the release-week of Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy. Almost unbelievable.
Before my own memory further fades, here for posterity and fun, are 33 things (a randomly-chosen number) about the recording of that album I think I recall:
• At “The Riot Hyatt,” in Hollywood, CA at around 1:30 in the morning, The Refreshments finally inked our recording contract.
• A few hours later, we loaded our gear into the illustrious Ocean Way Studio on Sunset Blvd.
• We rented a house in LA.
• PH took the couch (he was “the new guy”), rest of us got bedrooms.
• Recording took 4 weeks.
• It was punctuated ecstasy and monotony.
• I spent most of my advance money on a Custom Shop Telecaster.
• We started every day of the week at 10.
• We usually cut off around 2 or 3 a.m.
• We recorded all our takes standing up (except, of course, PH…)
• And always live to tape.
• Clif Norrell was our producer, engineer and mixer; he slept the least and drove us hard.
• “Feeling” became a b-side.
• “Psychosis” got on to a soundtrack of a movie no-one saw.
• I had daily panic attacks, cold hands and feet, chest pains, dizzy spells, a lot of denial and an unopened bottle of anti-depressants.
• I recall long nights of interminable takes in front of the mic, the smell of the tubes burning in the amps, standing in our sweltering iso-booths, sweating from the heat the amps generated from cranking out take after take after take after take….
• We all enjoyed relaxing in the studio lounge with the simple thrill of flying the slot cars around the track.
• We killed hours playing Risk.
• “The Blush-ians” proved the most irritating scourge.
• I discovered why they call meditation a practice.
• We consumed urns of coffee, kegs of beer, and gallons green tea, semi-loads of “Double-doubles,” columns of biscuits and gravy.
• I disappeared on long bike rides along Mulholland Drive and I never did find a pick up soccer game in Hollywood.
• I read in a pre-release review that I was too old to pen a “meaningful debut album.” I was 26. So glad they said that.
• Brian and I sat for sat hours on acoustic guitar and harmonica trying to get the intro to “Nada” right.
• “Interstate” is the only fade-out on the record; it was originally written with an ending that mirrored the intro.
• Somebody said, “f**k it,” drove across the desert, got halfway home to AZ, and then came back.
• No one said a word.
• The record company let us pick the first single!
• We flipped a coin between “Blue” and “Banditos.”
• There was no internet, all movies were VHS, we sent letters in the mail and bummed each other’s calling cards, and were never interrupted by cell phones or e-mail.
• There was some hysterical blindness at some point, but that was near the end.
• I remember pouring everything we had into it.
• Fizzy is what came out.
